Vacation? Who has time? It’s already July people! This newsletter is jammed so let’s
get started. First, I want to welcome my new associate, Dr. Constance Ornelas, who starts
August 1. Many of you may have already seen Dr. Ornelas at the office, as she did part
of her residency under my watch. Dr. Ornelas will work two days a week at the Long
Beach office. I’m sure everyone will love her. Please read more about Dr. Ornelas in this
newsletter. The weekend of June 11-12 marked the 10th year of working with the hundreds
of hard working athletes at the Special Olympics at Cal State Long
Beach. I wouldn’t miss this event for anything. I’m also excited
to announce I’ve been named Director of Podiatry, at the new
Wound Care Center opening at the Los Alamitos Medical Center
in August. To make this summer even MORE hectic, the search
continues for a new Cavalier King Charles puppy!
There is so much to tell everyone about, all detailed here in
our 'Summer Newsletter'.

Dr. Vikki Heads NEW
Wound Care Center |
|
Adding to an impressive list of supervisory
positions, Dr. Foley will be the Director of
Podiatry at the new Wound Care Center at
Los Alamitos Medical Center. “Our focus
will be patients with diabetes or peripheral
arterial disease (PAD) who have threatened
limbs,” says Dr. Foley. "Amputation may
not be the only answer." In addition to
Dr. Foley and associate, Dr. Ornelas,
the center will rely on a highly skilled
and an integrated team-based approach
that combines the expertise of other
specialists like, plastic, vascular and general surgeons.
Wound
Care Centers nationwide
have achieved tremendous success in
significantly reducing major amputation
rates and saving limbs. "Statistics show
well over 75% of amputations could have
been prevented with early diagnosis and
treatment. The Wound Care Center,
the only of its type the in North Orange
County, will, at least locally, reduce that
number," Dr. Foley adds.
"The
Wound Care Center will open in
August. I’ll supervise hyperbaric oxygen
treatments-there will be two chambers and
performing wound care," said Dr.
Foley. Please contact the office if you feel
you could be a candidate for this treatment. |

Welcome Aboard Dr. Ornelas!
|
We are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Connie
Ornelas to our practice. Dr. Ornelas joins the team highly qualified
after attending UCLA as an undergrad, followed by four years at
Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago.
It was during a
three-year residency at Lakewood Regional Medical Center that
Dr. Connie met, and eventually worked with Dr. Foley. "Dr. Ornelas was one of the best residents I’ve ever worked with," said
Dr. Foley.
The Northern California native has performed over
1,000 podiatric surgeries and will work two days a week in the
Long Beach office. "Dr. Ornelas brings a high level of dedication, energy
and expertise to our
patients," Dr. Foley said.
Dr. Connie Ornelas begins August 1.

Dr. Foley Keeps Patient “On the Move”
–Wife Refers Husband to Dr. V
 |
|
John and wife, Elizabeth, ready for another excursion. |
|
|
|
Long Beach resident John
Rodiles is what people call
'active'. "I run, walk, kayak and
play tennis. I’m not great at any
one thing. I like being outside
and being active," John adds.
So when neuromas on both feet started to cramp his lifestyle, John sought
medical treatment. John’s
symptoms included toe
cramping as well as sharp,
burning pains on the balls
of his feet.
John went to see a number
of different podiatrists, who
all pointed him in the same
direction–surgery. "That wasn’t
the option for me. There seems
to be complications when there’s
surgery." John commented.

|
|
Luckily for John, his wife Elizabeth
was being treated for an injured Achilles tendon by Dr. Foley. “I was
immediately put at ease because Dr. Foley never even mentioned surgery during my initial exam,’ John
said. "She was most aware of my
lifestyle and excellent in describing the
various treatment options."
"It's important to educate any
patient to his or her options," says
Dr. Foley. "I’m also inclined to try
a conservative approach with initial
treatment plans."
Dr. Foley explained the prescribed
treatment for John. Sclerotherapy
features 5-8 injections of anesthetic
and 4% alcohol. The two combine to
chemically create micro scar formation
that causes the nerve to go numb. This
stops the pain and the patient can
continue with their normal activity.
John is a little halfway through the
injection treatment plan and encouraged by the progress.
"My feet are definitely feeling better and while surgery may
be
necessary in the long term, this has worked for me," he added. |

Are You Ready for Painless Injections?
Over the years countless patients have expressed the most fearful part of the
treatment process is the actual injection. Some find it so extremely painful, they often avoid treatment for even serious ailments. We’re happy to report there is now a terrifically effective alternative and it’s called VAD. Please refer to the website below.
When placed on the injection area, the VAD serves as an anesthetic, numbing the area and allowing for painless injections. “The response from our patients has been very positive,” said Dr. Foley. Most patients experience reduced pain associated with necessary injections of medications, suture and staple removal as well as other injection based treatments. If you have any fear of injections, please refer the website below, which features informative videos and product demonstration. We will answer any questions at the office.
